Pillar 05

Himalayan Ecology

Protecting the mountains we depend on.

Water conservation, forest conservation and waste management, led by the villages that live in the Himalayas.

Why it matters

Protecting the mountains we depend on.

The Himalayas are the source of our rivers, our forests and much of our climate. Springs are drying, forests are under pressure, and waste is piling up on mountain slopes.

Golden Arrows works with mountain communities, who know the land best, to protect water, forests and clean villages for the next generation.

Who we serve

Mountain villages, forest users and local schools

Where we work

Himalayan villages, forests and water sources

Who we work with

Village councils, forest departments, schools and CSR partners

What we do

Four focus areas.

The work we plan with each partner, shaped around what the community needs most.

01

Water conservation

Reviving springs and streams, building recharge pits and check dams, and using water carefully.

02

Forest conservation

Planting native trees, protecting existing forest and preventing fires, with village forest groups.

03

Waste management

Segregation, collection and clean-up drives, so plastics and other waste do not end up in streams and forests.

04

Biodegradable waste

Composting kitchen and farm waste into manure, which cuts waste and helps local farms.

How we work with partners

From listening to lasting results.

  1. 01

    Discover

Map water sources, forest cover and waste problems with the village.

  2. 02

    Design

Plan simple, low-cost works with clear roles for each village group.

  3. 03

    Deliver

Build and plant, set up waste systems, and train local volunteers.

  4. 04

    Demonstrate

Measure and share how much water, forest and waste has been saved or restored.

What we measure

Results partners can see.

Every program starts with clear goals. We report these to our partners in plain language.

  • Springs and water sources restored
  • Trees planted and surviving
  • Area of forest protected
  • Waste collected and segregated
  • Compost produced from biodegradable waste
  • Villagers and students trained
